We Could All Use Some R&R – Conservative Cartoon

Conservative on Target! 8/24/12

Opiate of the Masses?: There is no doubt that Christianity, as it has come to be understood in America, has been in decline. That may not be a bad thing. Frankly, I think the potential demise of culturalized, politicized, and Americanized forms of Christianity represents a hopeful trend! While Marx suggested that religion serves to dull and subdue attention to real life, I would say that false forms of religion do worse by offering a spiritual placebo, which only provides surface satisfaction with the "divine" rather than true reconciliation and intimacy with the Creator.
In the wake of this cultural upheaval, the Christian community that seems to be emerging (I mean nothing by that term!) may be smaller than, say, 50 years ago but it is arguably becoming more theologically astute and biblically faithful. Perhaps a remnant?

Are Liberal Politics and Public Policy Issues Based on ‘Science’? Science as it’s taught today cannot make moral judgments. Science can only conclude how atoms line up, how hot or cold something is, or how fast something travels. Science can’t say if genocide is morally right or wrong or whether taxing the rich is good or bad for the economy. Science can only publish the body count of the dead and the amount of money that’s collected from tax payers.
The only thing that is keeping America from going over the cliff is a faith-based, Bible-based worldview. Our founders understood this, even those who had strong objections to some of the Bible’s doctrines. The Declaration of Independence makes it clear that “rights” were an endowment from the Creator and not a gift from the State.
"[G]overnment theft of private money and redistribution by a government elite is communism not democracy. ... Communism has already been tried for over 70 years, and it doesn't work because people work to support themselves, not their neighbors. When the rewards are confiscated and redistributed to others, people produce less or stop producing altogether. The quantity of "goods in common" declines until the system finally collapses and everybody is hungry, not just "the poor." Then totalitarianism steps in to force people to produce (ask the Russians, the Poles, the Estonians)." -- Don Hull

On Avoiding Social Issues: It’s the economy and the Culture, Stupid!

From John Sykes

The RINO GOP circular firing squad, periodically beseiged by Democrat mortar lobs, once again illustrated why the current GOP must be reformed. It’s the economy and the Culture, Stupid!

If the GOP can’t learn to circle its wagons and protect its own, if the GOP runs from and publically savages the important social issues of the day, it is dooming not only itself but possibly this culture to a relativist, statist rabbit hole.

Here’s more from  Cindy Simpson at americanthinker.com:

…Squeaky wheels (whether they still have landlines, lack caller ID, or simply enjoy spending a lot of time at home answering telephone solicitations) may get the media, pollsters', and politicians' grease, but it was thousands of quietly energized and unorganized pairs of shoes that showed up at the recent Chick-fil-A protest.  Was the show of support merely for free speech, or did it have something to do with the content of the speech itself?  On CNN, Tim Stanley noted the potential strength that the protest foreshadowed and wondered that "something more complex is taking place: Economics and culture are becoming synonymous."

Might a large swath of the population believe that those two ideas are more than "becoming synonymous" -- that culture actually lays the very foundation of the economy?  In the masterpiece Witness, Whittaker Chambers, the inspiration for many great conservative thinkers including Ronald Reagan, penned the famous quote: "Economics is not the central problem of this century. It is a relative problem that can be solved in relative ways. Faith is the central problem of this age."

The GOP party line contends that our economic house must be put in order first, leaving the social issues that make up our moral house as a secondary priority.  Some within the party wish to put the moral house in order first.  And many of the rest of us don't understand why there are separate houses to begin with -- rather rooms within the same house that can be addressed simultaneously.  Politicians like Mitch Daniels famously recommended a GOP "truce" on social issues, but to many conservatives, such a stance appeared more as a wave of surrender.  Were religious conservative views on the touchy moral issue of abortion wrapped up in the white flag and thrown under the bus along with Akin?…

The Loan Arranger Rides Again – Tea Party Cartoon

From hopenchangecartoons

In the film "The Paper Chase," Professor Kingsfield's blanket assessment of college students was that they enter the halls of learning with "a skullfull of mush." And because skullfulls of mush translate so directly into Democratic votes, Barack Obama just made his umpteenth campaign appearance on a college campus.

Unsurprisingly, the president told the students that mean Mr. Romney and vicious Mr. Ryan want to slash the amount of money being given away to college students. Booooo!!!!

But Obama understands the plight of the mushy skull crowd. After all, he and Michelle ran up "a mountain of debt" from loans to go to law school - and there would have been even more debt if "Barry Soetoro" hadn't received all of those "foreign student" grants as an undergraduate.

Granted, the records which would prove whether or not Barry declared himself to be a "foreign student" have been sealed under presidential order, but Harry Reid assures us that such secrecy is a sure sign of guilt - and who are we to question a bitter, partisan, and possibly senile old lemon-sucker of a Senate Majority Leader?

But returning to Obama's speech, he promised to help every working class kid in the nationachieve the new American dream: running up an unpayable amount of debt to the government in return for an utterly useless college degree.

Just how bad is it out there in the Obamaconemy? So bad that 50% of recent college graduatesare either unemployed, or severely underemployed. And right about now, those kids may be asking themselves why they racked up so much debt for so little return.

And just maybe, Barack Obama isn't the one they should be turning to for answers. After all, the first family only paid off that "mountain of lawschool debt" eight years ago...and after borrowing all that money, neither Barack nor Michelle currently has a law license.

Turns out that they'd only need them if they were interested in upholding the law.

Wargaming Termination of Tea Party Extremists: So what should we do? First, we must have our eyes open to how the left is manipulating us -- pushing us -- with Alinsky's Rules One through Fourteen.  In baseball parlance, you can't hit a curve ball unless you know it's a curve ball.  Next, we must reinforce and broadcast to the world that violence is not the answer.  Finally, just as Tea Partiers effectively quashed the allegations of racism, we must police our ranks to insure that no one countenances anything even remotely close to what the Alinsky-inspired left is goading us to do. As Mr. Cary adroitly suggested, and as I hope I have crystallized with Alinsky's Rule Fourteen, the threat of a manufactured crisis is not just real.  It's their goal.

Herd of Independent Minds: Liberal intellectuals like to pose as bearers of the culture of reason, as fiercely independent thinkers.  But they are kidding themselves.  They have traded their intellectual primogeniture for the mess of pottage of group identity.  They are fully integrated into the socially and politically dominant tribe, sharing the same visceral likes and dislikes, the same shaming code.  Rather than being autonomous rational actors, they are merely an assemblage of cipher units marching in lock step to the tribal drumbeat.

Social issue circular firing squads are a very dangerous diversion right now …

ship of state Can You Feel The Ship Turning? From John Sykes

The social issue distractions of this week, fueled by the circular firing squads of RINO’s feeding on themselves and well-meaning but win-at-all-cost GOPers, mean little in the face of impending moral and economic destruction!

Yes, I still believe social issues derive from all-important moral issues that will determine the future of our culture, that social issues have and will continue to tip elections.

But  I have one strong caveat.

The economic collapse has arrived more quickly and must be faced now.

Please circulate this “One Nation, Under Water” video, vote against the worst of our progressives, and pray that we survive for the changing of our statist ship of state’s course.

Programs Vs. Forces – Tea Party Cartoon

From Chuck Assay at creators.com

Tea Party Matters! 8/21/12

President Obama, Mr. Tough Guy? -- President Obama apparently talks tougher about Marco Rubio than he does about Iran. The DC's Alex Pappas reports on some revelations in journalist Glenn Thrush's new book:
"'Obama’s Last Stand' also describes Obama as 'a cocky trash-talker,' though his 'confidence … was not absolute.' In one anecdote, Thrush wrote that in the months before Romney announced his running mate, Obama asked a friend of Marco Rubio’s if she thought the Florida senator would be tapped. 'Tell your boy to watch it,' Obama said, according to Thrush. 'He might get his ass kicked.'"

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood told The Daily Caller that he is "very proud" of stimulus spending that created jobs—at a cost of about $738,461 per job. [Only a progressive elitist who knows better than we do could be proud of this!]

Charity Is Our Responsibility, Not The Nanny State’s…

From Larry Miller at politicalchristian.org

…The task of looking after the poor is never ending. Even Jesus said, “the poor you will always have with you.” So what is the purpose of the charitable mandate we find in scripture? I would suggest that it is similar to the reason we are instructed to tithe… that is give ten percent as a recognition that all good things come from our Creator. God does not need our money. He could, by simply decreeing it to be so, feed them all like He did the Israelites as they wandered through the desert on the route to the promised land.

He chooses not to do that, but puts the task in our hands… knowing that the job could never be done. Helping the less fortunate does, however, like tithing, demonstrate obedience and our concern for our fellow man. Unfortunately, outsourcing our charitable works does not help us meet any of these goals and, given the term “entitlement” gives the recipients the idea that free help from others is something they have coming to them, rather than receiving help from a concerned friend or neighbor in the name of Christ.

There is, of course, a corollary to this idea that Christians should not outsource their charity to the ever expanding government agencies. It is that the individually and corporately, Christians need to take more interest in meeting the needs in their communities. Of course, evangelical Christian already give much more to charitable organizations than progressives who believe in government programs. The Knights of Columbus is one of the most charitable organizations in the country. But much more can be one. I was a member of a class that bought jackets for students at a local elementary school. Another time, we bought shoes for them… and back packs with school supplies. There are, like Jesus said, always needs around us we can meet… without a bloated bureaucracy watching over us.

We say we believe in individual responsibility, let’s take some responsibility and be a community resource… we may have to fight big brother to do it, but that’s OK. It’s the right thing to do.

Scriptural references and the rest are all here …

"Issues" or America? Obama is hiding behind the trees in the forest..

By Thomas Sowell at townhall.com

There are some very serious issues at stake in this year's election -- so many that some people may not be able to see the forest for the trees. Individual issues are the trees, but the forest is the future of America as we have known it.

The America that has flourished for more than two centuries is being quietly but steadily dismantled by the Obama administration, during the process of dealing with particular issues.

For example, the merits or demerits of President Obama's recent executive order, suspending legal liability for young people who are here illegally, presumably as a result of being brought here as children by their parents, can be debated pro and con. But such a debate overlooks the much more fundamental undermining of the whole American system of Constitutional government.

The separation of powers into legislative, executive and judicial branches of government is at the heart of the Constitution of the United States -- and the Constitution is at the heart of freedom for Americans.

No President of the United States is authorized to repeal parts of legislation passed by Congress. He may veto the whole legislation, but then Congress can override his veto if they have enough votes. Nevertheless, every President takes an oath to faithfully execute the laws that have been passed and sustained -- not just the ones he happens to agree with…

Look. Romney’s Tax Returns – Tea Party Cartoon

From Michael Ramirez at creators.com

Tea Party Matters! 8/20/12

The difference between the Republican ticket and the Democrat ticket is stark.  If there is one salient fact about Barack Obama, it is that he has grown up in a plastic bubble of Democrat leftism.  Hawaii, Ivy League schools, Chicago machine politics in a strongly Democrat Illinois...except for his election in 2008, Obama has never even had to try to win Republican voters. His wife has also grown up in an alternative universe of angry black Marxism, leftist law schools, and a church in which the parishioners sit quietly in their pews while a hate-mongering pastor spews out contempt for his chosen homeland.  Wright's quotes about America are bad, but over and over he has said things which are simply nuts.

Americans are learning about special armed agents employed by the Social Security Administration and the NOAA Fisheries Office of Law Enforcement after the agencies' recent ammunition orders were made public. [Are crossing guards and bus drivers next?]
"The greatest threat facing America today is the disastrous fiscal policies of our own government, marked by shameless deficit spending and Federal Reserve currency devaluation. It is this one-two punch -- Congress spending more than it can tax or borrow, and the Fed printing money to make up the difference -- that threatens to impoverish us by further destroying the value of our dollars." -- Dr. Ron Paul
Paradoxical Quote of The Day From Ben Stein:
"Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured... but not everyone must prove they are a citizen." Now add this,
"Many of those who refuse, or are unable, to prove they are citizens will receive free insurance paid for by those who are forced to buy insurance because they are citizens."
