I’m not sure I want even yet another label but ‘teavangelical’ does describe me well.
From the dailycaller.com:
What are ‘teavangelicals’ and what do they stand for? Teavangelicals are conservative Christians, mostly evangelicals who agree with the tea party movement and have joined the cause. They’ve done so for various reasons but the bottom line is they see our severe fiscal situation through a biblical worldview believing that that God’s word speaks about the immorality of the debt, a return to fiscal responsibility and that that the all-powerful federal government is in many ways replacing God in people’s lives as being the most powerful force in it.
How are they associated with the tea party? The tea party wants to return to constitutionally limited government, and guess what? Teavangelicals want that as well, but they happen to call it something else: a return to Judeo-Christian principles. They are breaking bread with the tea party because both libertarians and evangelicals view the U.S. Constitution in much the same way our Founding Fathers did. That is, a belief in a limited view of the federal government’s power and a strong belief in the Almighty God.
The article does suggest that some teavangelicals would never vote for Romney because of his Mormonism.
I want to point out to these that I don’t know anywhere where God commands us to vote only for Christians. In fact, He offers very pointed advice on how to choose our leaders in Exo 18:21:
But select capable men from all the people--men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain--and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.
To the point and in obedience, I would rather vote for a Mormon who fears God and hates dishonest gain than a Christian who doesn’t!
AnybodyButObama needs to be our rallying cry if we want to be able to exercise any of our freedoms, particularly freedom of religion!
In this video, Michelle Bachman very ably and succinctly identifies the core values of a teavangelical. I also like her comparison to the size of Gideon’s army in relation to what it accomplished!
